Analysts Claim: Verizon Sells Around 300,000 BlackBerry Tours on Opening Day

How many Tours could a Verizon chuck, chuck, if a Verizon Tour could chuck…. BlackBerry Tours? Turns out that analysts are claiming 275,000 to 300,000 BlackBerry Tours made their way out the door during Verizon’s first day of sales back on Sunday. That’s a lot of BlackBerry action. Even if these numbers are inaccurate, Verizon is no doubt happy with the launch… how could they not be?
Now, we’re all sitting here patiently awaiting numbers from the
other Tour carriers… I wonder how they’ll fare? Haven’t heard much in
the way of ‘buzz’ from TELUS or Bell up here in Canada…

AT&T may get Sony Ericsson C905a 8MP cameraphone on July 19th?
AT&T might soon find themselves catching up with T-Mobile in the 8-megapixel cameraphone game. According to one of Boy Genius Report’s tipsters, AT&T may go live with the Sony Ericsson C905a cameraphone later this month. If the rumor pans out, we could see the SE C905a hitting AT&T on July 19th!
We’ve mentioned the C905 aplenty, so it’s good to see a GSM carrier preparing to offer the handset on Yankee soil. The C905a packs an 8.1-megapixel Cybershot camera with Xenon flash, 3G data connectivity, Bluetooth, WiFi and aGPS. Add to that the C905a’s striking design and Cybershot active lens, and you’ve got the makings of one solid cameraphone.
Pricing is still unknown.

GSM Palm Pre spotted in the wild

The Palm Pre’s biggest downfall is the network technology that it uses - the US-only CDMA standard. That fact alone limits the Palm Pre to the US. American GSM users and just about everyone else on Planet Earth will have to wait for Palm to launch the GSM variant that we spied in Barcelona.
The good news is that the GSM Pre may not be too far off. A newly leaked set of pics shows the Palm Pre clearly rocking a SIM card under the battery cover. The removable SIM bodes well for a near-term release of the GSM Palm Pre. Sooner is better than later.

Skype 3.0 goes final on Windows Mobile

Skype users rejoice! The Skype 3.0 application for Windows Mobile has officially matured past “beta” status, and is now available for download. If you haven’t yet tried Skype 3.0 for Windows Mobile, we’d suggest taking a quick look-see. The 3.0 version features an SMS messaging feature that is supposed to cut down on international texting fees as well as a file-sharing feature that basically does what it you’d expect.
The Skype 3.0 Windows Mobile app also rocks an updated UI and presumably does away with some of beta-bugs.

Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 Coming July 12th for $199

On the heels of BlackBerry Tour 9630 dummy devices and promo materials arriving at Bell, some Verizon BlackBerry Tour news has dropped. BGR is reporting that the Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 will be available online and in stores July 12th. Look for it for $199 on the standard two-year contract.
You can sign up for email updates via the BlackBerry Tour minisite at Verizon… But at the moment you’ll notice some wrinkles need to be smoothed out. You’ll notice in the screenshot above some funky image sizing and placement… I trust Verizon has a designer and/or developer on the case at the moment… It is a little late. Perhaps they were havin’ a few late night beers when they put the site up?

Samsung Jet: 800 MHz, 3.1” OLED screen, 5 megapixels and“smarter than a smartphone"
Monday June 15 10:17 AM
The Samsung Jet (aka S8000) has just been announced by Samsung USA, and the title of the press release Exchange support baked in, but what about applications and an app store? is a bit offensive: “Samsung Jet - Smarter Than A Smartphone.” What exactly does that mean? Samsung says that the device supports multitasking and has Microsoft I am impressed by the 3.1 inch WVGA screen (800 x 480 pixels) that supports 16 million colors. Samsung seems to be the only manufacture out there trying to get OLED into as many devices as possible. I have no idea what their “Dolfin Web browser” is about, and I urge Samsung’s public relations people to take a look at how Apple, Sony Ericsson and Nokia write their press releases because no easy to find spec sheet makes me one disgruntled blogger.
Luckily Phone Arena has a prototype and has posted a preview! They’re happy the device has a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and microUSB port, surprised to see the browser supporting Flash content, and genuinely think the device will do well if it is reasonably priced. Wish I could tell you when it will ship and how much it will cost, but only Samsung knows that and they’re not sharing the details.

AT&T stores already sold out of iPhone 3G S pre-orders!
Sunday June 14 9:10 PM
When Apple releases a new iPhone, as they are apparently doing once a year, a nation full of iPhone fans mobilizes. This time around, Apple has allowed for pre-orders of the new iPhone 3G S, and iPhone hopefuls have already snatched up all iPhone pre-order stocks at all AT&T stores across the US. Anyone putting in an iPhone 3G S pre-order at this point is unlikely to see their iPhone 3G S on launch day.

The sell-out of all launch-day iPhone 3G S pre-order supplies at AT&T stores is probably a good sign that Apple will again see nationwide inventories of its iconic smartphone being sold-out on launch day.
So, if you’re trying to get your hands on an iPhone 3G S on launch day (June 19, this coming Friday), then your only option will be to stand in line at an Apple store and wait for those doors to open at 8am PST. You can reserve your iPhone 3G S at any Apple retail store by visiting your nearest Apple store’s webpage (ours was apple.com/retail/thirdstreetpromenade) and click the “Get Started” button underneath the iPhone 3G S banner. You can reserve your iPhone 3G S by picking out your iPhone 3G S model and accompanying rate plan on the website. When you get to the Apple store on Friday morn, just hand the store employee your information and you’ll be out of there in no time flat - with a brand new iPhone 3G S in your hand!
Of course, AT&T has still not budged from its iPhone subscriber “loyalty tax,” so anyone currently using an iPhone 3G will most likely have to pay an extra $200 for the early upgrade to the iPhone 3G S. In case you’re unaware, the iPhone 3G S will cost “early upgraders” $399 for the 16GB model and $499 for the 32GB model.
Good thing IntoMobile is giving away a few iPhone 3G S’s this week. Stay tuned for details!
Video: Nokia N97 promo for the U.S. featuring LL Cool J’s “Don’t call it a comeback!”
Saturday June 13 5:09 PM
To promote the launch its flagship device in the U.S., Nokia has prepared a special video featuring LL Cool J’s “Don’t call it a comeback!” and, of course, the N97, which sings along the tune. Major features of the device are highlighted including home page widgets, 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, connectivity options, social networking, and so on. Check it out, it’s cool, though I doubt it will help Nokia sell bunch of N97s without a carrier partner that will subsidize it
Verizon CEO Gives Official Nod to BlackBerry Storm 2, Tour 9630
Friday June 12 9:13 AM
On top of claiming Verizon would get the Palm Pre in the near future (much to the disagreement of Sprint), VZ CEO Lowell McAdam has also confirmed that they would be getting the much-fondled Storm 2 and BlackBerry Tour 9630. McAdam placed the two devices along the same timeline as the Pre (within the next six months), and we’re already hearing the Tour will land this summer, so that means the Storm 2 could hit the streets any time between then and the early new year; fall would be a safe bet, if you wanted to spread them out evenly. At any rate, I guess we can talk about the devices a little more openly now, not that the lack of official recognition hushed our tones, or anything.
